I am creating films that will be part of a touring production of Jerry Granelli and Rinde Eckert's music and spoken-word piece Sandhills Reunion, a beautiful work in which dreams of the past--of outlaws and cowboys and romance—arise from the rugged lands of western Nebraska to mix with the quotidian realities of present-day life in the reigion.
Mark Andrew is again my collaborator, shooting the project. We traveled to Nebraska with Rinde for a 3-day improvised-shoot; neither of Mark nor I had ever been to this part of the country, and had notions of what we would like to find, but no idea what would actually greet us.
Our road-trip/shoot yielded incredible imagery. Mark's work is amazing--tactile and responsive to all that we encountered from cows to diners to cheap motels to falling down houses to awe-inspiring landscapes.
