PRINCETON ONE ACT OPERA PROJECT

DIRECTOR

VIDEO DESIGNER

ADVISOR TO STUDENT COMPOSER/LIBRETTIST TEAM

An evening of three original one-act operas presented at Princeton's McCarter Theatre Center's Berlind Theater: Lear on the 2nd Floor, by composer Anthony Davis with playwright Allan Havis (this shorter workshop version developed into the full-length opera that premiered at UCSD in 2013) , Weakness, by Princeton University Professor Barbara White with New York choreographer Kate Weare, and Off Court, by Princeton undergraduates James Chu ’13 (composer) and Lily Akerman ’13 (librettist).  The three operas were unified by the vision of director Mark DeChiazza, who collaborated with each opera's creative team in early development of each work, and advised students Chu and Akerman over the course of the year through all phases of composition and production.  Princeton’s Michael Pratt conducted and sopranos Susan Narucki and Sarah Davis were featured.  The casts included professional singers and musicians and undergraduate student performers.
