Orpheus Unsung is a collaboration between Mark DeChiazza (concept, direction, films) and composer Steven Mackey, this multi-media "opera" features dance and fractured films. The voice of Orpheus—the electric guitar—leads the stage through a dark journey of separation, descent and transformation.

Olagón is a macaronic cantata in doublespeak. Music by Dan Trueman, text by Paul Muldoun. Performed by Eighth Blackbird featuring Iarla Ó Lionáird and Dan Trueman, the production is directed and designed by Mark DeChiazza.

My Lai, an opera monodrama with Kronos Quartet, Rinde Eckert, and Van-Anh Vo tells the story of Hugh Thompson Jr., a US Army helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War who tried to tried to intervene and rescue villagers during the My Lai massacre. DeChiazza co-directs and designs.

Hiraeth is a live orchestral and film performance composed by Sarah Kirkland Snider, co-commissioned by North Carolina Symphony and Princeton Symphony Orchestra. DeChiazza created a 30-minute film to partner with concert presentation of the work.

5 Beasts is a music-theater work featuring Rinde Eckert, Ned Rothenberg, and Adam Matta. Production designed and co-directed by Mark DeChiazza. Premiered at at Les Subsistances in Lyon, France in March 2015.

So Percussion’s From Out a Darker Sea integrates live music, film and installation into an evening length performance inspired by a UK coal-mining town DeChiazza acted as a consultant to So Percussion during the development of the work.

Black Inscription is a rock song-cycle about the sea set in a multimedia environment. Premiered in 2018 as a part of Prototype Festival in NYC, the work is inspired by environmental texts by Rachel Carson, and the life of free diver, Natalia Molchanova. Black Inscription is both an homage and a reckoning. Black Inscription currently tours.
