Orpheus Unsung: An Opera for Electric Guitar

Orpheus Unsung is a collaboration between Mark DeChiazza (concept, direction, films) and composer Steven Mackey, this multi-media "opera" features dance and fractured films. The voice of Orpheus—the electric guitar—leads the stage through a dark journey of separation, descent and transformation.

Quixote

Quixote was produced in a 2-year residency at Montclair State University through Peak Performances. The second evening-length music-theater work by created by DeChiazza and Amy Beth Kirsten.

My Lai

My Lai, an opera monodrama with Kronos Quartet, Rinde Eckert, and Van-Anh Vo tells the story of Hugh Thompson Jr., a US Army helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War who tried to tried to intervene and rescue villagers during the My Lai massacre. DeChiazza co-directs and designs.

Hiraeth is a live orchestral and film performance composed by Sarah Kirkland Snider, co-commissioned by North Carolina Symphony and Princeton Symphony Orchestra. DeChiazza created a 30-minute film to partner with concert presentation of the work.
